The Social Network
By admin on Jan 26, 2011 | In movies
I watched the movie “The Social Network” the other day. I could say I was pleasantly surprised but I wasn’t. The movie was good, don’t get me wrong. I was just surprised at how the website “Facebook” was born. Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in the United States or the world, like it really matters which.
The thing that disappointed me most is how his best friend was ousted from the company. That was just not right. When I first heard that the movie was basically about the two parties who were suing Mark I really thought it was just because they may have been jealous of what he was accomplishing. Boy was I wrong. I know when a movie is made there is probably some dramatics added. For example; When Sean Parker (cofounder of Napster) throws a check in Eduardo’s face and has him removed from the “Facebook” office. Sean recently said that this is not true. He also said it was not true about the cocaine arrest that got him removed from the Facebook Corporation. That part is easily checked as arrest records are public record. I myself did not check because it is just not that important to me.
I have gotten way ahead of myself because I am assuming that everyone has seen this movie. It is actually a good movie. The actor Jesse Eisenberg who portrays Mark Zuckerberg did a flawless job. He was very good. Andrew Garfield plays Eduardo Saverin who was Mark’s best friend was also very good. If Mark was portrayed accurately by Eisenberg than Mark should have been grateful to actually have a real friend. He is not very pleasant. Actually Jesse Eisenberg played Zuckerberg as rather cocky. At least I thought so.
Facebook started in only colleges after Zuckerberg stole the idea from some fellow students who hired him to write the script/code for the website. Mark Zuckerberg did write the code but just went live himself, with Eduardo’s money, without including the students who came up with the idea. The difference between what was “The Facebook” and sites like Friendster or My Space was that it was exclusive to college students. It started in Harvard and expanded to other schools. I believe that is how it spread so quickly. It does not tell us when they opened up to the public. They opened the site to more and more colleges so students could stay in contact and share photos, etc. I personally do not see a difference between Face Book and My Space, other than the game apps. Now that is a good idea. You can upload pictures on just about any social networking site. Yes, including ours. We have a whole Gallery of pictures. Anyway back to the movie.
I am going to skip over a lot of the details. Lets first bring in Sean Parker who is played by Justin Timberlake. Justin is a pretty good actor if I do say so. He did a fine job. Sean Parker (Timberlake) is not nice either. He made and lost a lot of money when he co founded Napster. He did contribute to the company but screwed over Eduardo in the process. Even if they brought in Sean there is no reason for what they did to Eduardo. Obviously if Zuckerberg is a billionaire there was plenty of money to go around. Parker had some contacts that Eduardo did not have since he was involved with Napster. That in my opinion did not give a reason to oust Eduardo. Especially by blind siding him and screwing him over royally. That is not a true friend. Of course Mark Zuckerberg can buy all the friends that he wants. I sure do not want friends that way. I hope he has learn some lessons and knows what having a true friend means.
That is the basics. I am going to skip to the part where Mark settles both law suits and pays out a boat load of money. The students that sued him for stealing their idea received 65 million dollars. I think they can live with that. Eduardo received an undisclosed amount which you know had to be over 65 million. He also got his name back up on the site as co founder. He deserves it.
I would recommend watching this movie. I really enjoyed it. It may not be as exciting as an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie but it kept my attention.

Going The Distance
By admin on Sep 5, 2010 | In Romantic fun, movies
Going The Distance staring Drew Barrymore (Erin) and Justin Long (Garrett) is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. I laughed from start to finish. It was not only hysterical, it was romantic.
This movie is about long distance relationships. Which we all know rarely works. That was the theme of the romance part of romantic comedy. The comedy part definitely stands out. Not only were the two main characters Erin (Barrymore) and Garrett (Long) extremely funny but the supporting cast may have surpassed their humor. Of course Drew & Justin also had to carry the romance part of the movie.
Garrett's room mate Dan played by Charlie Day was hysterical. Dan and their friend Box played by Jason Sudeikis provided most of the comedy in this film. These two men were no less than spectacular with the humor that they added to this movie. Christina Applegate who played Erin's older sister also added to the fun in this film. She looks great and did a great job in adding a lot of humor to the film.
If I even think about this film I start to laugh. If you are into comedy then you must see this film. The comedy definitely out weighs the romance in this movie. However the romance is still there and who can play it better than Drew Barrymore.
Just go see this movie. It is definately worth the money.

Ghost of Girlfriends Past
By admin on May 24, 2010 | In movies
I just now watched the movie "Ghost of Girlfriends Past". It stars Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner. It was a good movie and had a lot of funny parts. The story line was not origional as I have seen that senario a few times. However Matthew McConaughey can stand on screen with an empty background and talk to himself and most women would watch it for hours. He is one of the most gorgeous men on the face of the earth.
Jennifer Garner was very good in the movie also. I am sure a lot of men watch the movie for her. Just do not tell that to your date. I think the the chemistry between them was not as good as Matthew and Kate Hudson. I guess that goes to show you can't pick other peoples significant others.
The plot was like the old Scrooge where Conner Mead (McConaughey) is a huge playboy without considering the women's feelings. He is such a horn dog. Anyway when he goes to his brothers wedding and starts to mess everything up his dead uncle comes to pay him a visit and proceeds to tell him he will be visited by three ghosts.
Of course the first is the ghost of girlfriends past, the second is the ghost of the present, and the third is the ghost of the future. It is a heartwarming but very funny story.
It has something for everyone. Matthew McConaughy for the ladies, Jennifer Garner for the men and love & humor for both. There were times I laughed outloud.
Now that is the kind of love story I like. Mostly laughs and only a few tears. I would recomend this as a stay at home movie date.

Old Dogs
By admin on Dec 9, 2009 | In movies
There are alot of funny parts in this movie but the overall my impression was just ok. Robin Williams and John Travolta are both very good and funny actors. I liked the movie but the storyline was a little weak. Wild Hogs was a much better movie and John Travolta's character was much better in that than in Old Dogs.
To tell a little about the movie, Robin Williams who plays Dan and John Travolta who plays Charlie are best friends and business partners. They are on the verge of thier biggest deal ever that would bring them the success that they have been working for. Dan (Williams)is the more serious of the two and pines over a brief relationship that he had with Vicki, played by Kelly Preston, seven years earlier.
Vicki (Preston) is going to jail for a couple of weeks for an activest crime. Before she goes to jail, she tells Charlie that he is the father of her twins. One boy and one girl. Her best friend was going to watch the children while Vicki was in jail but was injured inadvertently by Charlie. Charlie then has to take the children for the time that Vicki is in jail.
As I said there are some very funny parts to this movie. The best part is when they broke into the zoo. That is shown on most clips on TV but there is more to it. It is kind of a romatic comedy but more comedy than romance. Plus it is really hard to see Kelly Preston and Robin Williams together when everyone knows she is really married to John Travolta.
I think the movie is worth seeing. You will laugh out loud. Seth Green who plays Ralph White has some pretty funny parts too. He has a great supporting role in this movie. All in all I would say seeing this movie would be a good date.

Men Who Stare At Goats
By admin on Nov 12, 2009 | In movies
"Men Who Stare At Goats" is a comedy about a secret group of men in the military that are called the psychic spies. The movie stars George Clooney as Lyn Cassidy who is the most phychic of all the spies. Ewan McGregor plays a reporter named Bob Wilton who goes to Iraq, after his wife leaves him, to get the story on these spies.
This movie is funny. Bob Wilton meets up with Lyn in Irac and the adventure begins. This movie is actually funnier than I thought it would be. I acutally laughed outloud a few times. Jeff Bridges who plays Bill and Kevin Spacey who plays Larry Hooper are a great supporting cast and did a great job in this movie.
Go see "Men Who Stare at Goats" if you want a good laugh. You will not regret it. It is a funny movie and will keep you entertained the whole time you are in the theatre.
